In spite of the Lagos State Government’s closure order, Chrisland School in Opebi area of Ikeja, is still conducting normal academic activities.

The State Ministry of Education had ordered a temporary shut down of the school following the death of a 12-year- old student of the school, Whitney Adeniran.

Recalls that the girl reportedly lost her life while participating in the school’s inter-house sports at Agege Stadium on February 9.

This was disclosed by the sister to the mother of the deceased, Constance who while appearing on Arise TV on Monday revealed that parents are still bringing their children to the school and that normal academic activities are ongoing as against the directive of the government.

She said: “ I saw them, they are students inside the school, parents are coming to drop their children and going out.

“Academic activities are ongoing already in the school. If the state government didn’t ask them to shut down, shouldn’t they shut down?

“The class room windows are open and classes are ongoing.”

However, a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo on Sunday said the closure was necessary to facilitate investigation into the “worrisome development” emanating from the school.

“The Lagos State Ministry of Education has ordered the temporary closure of Chrisland School, Opebi-Ikeja, following the reported death of a student of the School, Whytney Adeyemi.

“We also note the impact of this unfortunate event on family, friends and acquaintances of Whitney and call for calm as we assure that no effort will be spared in investigating the incident,” she said.
