A private disagreement between social-media influencer Autobola and her daughter, Jesutofunmi Sarah Hannah, has reportedly ended with police officers removing the outspoken online personality from their Canadian residence and taking her to a shelter.
According to information available to Shybellmedia, the mother-daughter conflict began after some of Jesutofunmi’s male friends confronted Autobola. They allegedly told the influencer that her daughter was old enough to make her own decisions and control her personal life.
Autobola reportedly rejected their intervention, insisting that she remained concerned about her daughter’s conduct and welfare.
The influencer claimed that Jesutofunmi had recently become secretive and had changed the password on her phone, preventing her mother from checking the device. Autobola also alleged that her daughter had begun hiding certain aspects of her life from her.
Speaking from the position of a concerned parent, Autobola reportedly declared that she did not raise her daughter to become wayward or involved with drugs. However, no evidence has been made public suggesting that Jesutofunmi uses illegal substances, and the allegation remains part of Autobola’s account of the dispute.
What started as a disagreement over boundaries, privacy and parental authority soon escalated beyond the family.
Jesutofunmi eventually contacted the police and reportedly asked officers to remove her mother from the house. Autobola was said to have been stunned by the request.
She reminded the officers that Jesutofunmi was her daughter and that she had brought her to Canada.
However, the police reportedly discovered that Autobola’s name was not on the current lease. Jesutofunmi’s name was allegedly listed on the agreement, and she was said to be responsible for paying the rent.
The officers reportedly explained that because Autobola was not named on the lease and Jesutofunmi no longer consented to her remaining in the residence, they could not allow her to continue living there against her daughter’s wishes.
Autobola was subsequently instructed to collect her belongings and leave the property. The officers reportedly advised that she must leave first, after which mother and daughter could hold further discussions and decide whether living together again was possible.
With nowhere else immediately available to her, Autobola was reportedly taken to a shelter.
The incident has sparked emotional debate online, with many people divided over who crossed the line. Some sympathised with Autobola, describing the experience of being removed from a home by police at the request of one’s daughter as heartbreaking. Others argued that an adult child is entitled to privacy and control over a home legally rented in her name.
The controversy also highlights the difficult collision between traditional African parenting and the legal independence enjoyed by adult children abroad. While Autobola apparently believed that motherhood gave her continuing authority over her daughter, the officers reportedly focused on the lease, legal occupancy and Jesutofunmi’s right to determine who could remain in the residence.
Jesutofunmi has not publicly provided a detailed account of the confrontation. Until she does, much of the story remains based on Autobola’s claims and information circulating around the family dispute.
For a woman widely known for commenting boldly on other people’s controversies, Autobola has now found herself at the centre of a deeply personal drama—one in which a disagreement over privacy ended with flashing police lights, packed belongings and an unexpected journey to a shelter.
