U.S. President Donald Trump has cancelled plans to livestream the execution of former Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, who was convicted of killing 13 people and injuring 32 others during a deadly shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, in November 2009.

Hasan, a former military psychiatrist, is scheduled to face execution by firing squad on December 3, 2026, at Fort Hood, following Trump’s approval of his death sentence.

The Pentagon’s earlier announcement that the execution would be broadcast live sparked widespread criticism from politicians, religious leaders and human rights advocates, who described the proposal as disturbing and potentially dangerous.

Following the backlash, Trump announced on Thursday that the execution would proceed without a public livestream. However, immediate family members of the victims will be permitted to witness it in person.

Hasan was convicted in 2013 and sentenced to death for the massacre. His appeals were unsuccessful, with the U.S. Supreme Court declining to review his conviction in March 2025.

If carried out, the execution will mark the first by the U.S. military in more than six decades, bringing renewed attention to one of America’s deadliest military base shootings.
