President Bola Tinubu has removed Maryam Sanda — who was sentenced to death in 2020 for k+lling her husband, Bilyaminu Bello — from the list of individuals initially considered for presidential pardon.

The development was announced on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga explained that the President acted under his constitutional powers of prerogative of mercy as provided in Section 175(1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

He noted that the revised list followed consultations with the Council of State and widespread public feedback.

According to the statement, Tinubu ordered the exclusion of persons convicted of serious offenses such as k+dnapping, dr¥g tr+fficking, h¥man tr+fficking, fra¥d, and illegal fir£arms possession.

Some individuals who had been previously considered in the initial pardon list will now have their sentences reduced rather than fully pardoned.
