The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Shamsideen Oladiti Adio, widely known as Shamelon, a powerful zonal head of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), for the alleged murder of a man identified as Ramon.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, when Shamelon allegedly attacked Ramon during a heated confrontation. Eyewitnesses say he beat Ramon so severely that he collapsed and later died.

“It was terrifying — nobody could step in because of who he is,” an eyewitness told reporters.
News of the killing has triggered widespread outrage across Lagos and social media. Many Nigerians are demanding justice and questioning why violent acts linked to transport union leaders persist unchecked.

“NURTW has turned into a cartel of terror. Lagos needs to act. Justice for Ramon!”

The NURTW has long been associated with violent clashes, extortion, and political influence in Lagos motor parks. As a zonal head, Shamelon was a well-known figure with significant influence, raising concerns about abuse of power.

Civil society groups are now urging the Lagos State Government to either ban the NURTW outright or implement urgent reforms to prevent further bloodshed.

Meanwhile, Ramon’s family and community are pleading with authorities to ensure the case is not swept underwear the rug, insisting that “justice must prevail.”
