High Court Sentences Chinese Man To Death By Hanging

A high court of Kano state has convicted a Chinese Nationale, Geng Quanrong for murder.


The presiding judge, justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji having convicted the defendant, sentenced Geng Quanrong to death by hanging.


The court convicted Geng Quanrong for the murder of his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Buhari in Kano. Quanrong, a 47-year-old chinese, was found guilty of culpable homicide punishable with death under section 221 of the penal code law of Kano state.

Quanrong committed the offence on september 16, 2022, when he stabbed Ummukulsum Buhari, a 23-year-old to death at her family residence in Janbulo quarters, Kumbotso local government area of kano.
During his arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In the course of the trial, the prosecution presented six witnesses to prove its case against the defendant and tendered four exhibits.

Also in its verdict, the court further recommended prerogative of mercy on behalf of the convict to be considered by the kano state governor.
