FIFA World Cup 2026: Full List of Individual Awards as Rodri, Mbappé, Simón and Cubarsí Headline Honors

Spain’s victorious campaign in the FIFA World Cup 2026 concluded with an array of individual accolades alongside securing the most prestigious team trophy in international football. Following La Roja’s dramatic 1-0 victory in extra time over Argentina in the final at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, FIFA announced the recipients of the tournament’s individual awards, with Spain securing the majority of these distinguished honours in recognition of an exceptional performance. 

Midfield virtuoso Rodri was distinguished as the tournament’s outstanding player after being awarded the adidas Golden Ball, which is bestowed upon the best player of the FIFA World Cup. The Manchester City midfielder served as the pivotal figure for Spain’s victorious team, demonstrating exceptional composure, leadership, and tactical insight throughout the month-long competition. His commanding midfield performances, including an exemplary display in the final against Argentina, enabled him to surpass Argentina captain Lionel Messi and France striker Kylian Mbappé for football’s most coveted individual accolade. 

While Spain predominated in the overall awards, France captain Kylian Mbappé reaffirmed his status as one of the most formidable forwards in global football by securing the adidas Golden Boot. Mbappé finished as the tournament’s top scorer with ten goals, becoming the first player to win the World Cup Golden Boot twice, having previously achieved this in Qatar 2022. Despite France’s third-place finish after losing to Spain in the semi-finals and defeating England in the third-place playoff, Mbappé’s clinical finishing throughout the tournament ensured he left North America with a notable personal milestone.

Spain’s defensive resilience was also formally acknowledged with goalkeeper Unai Simón receiving the adidas Golden Glove, awarded to the tournament’s best goalkeeper. Simón delivered numerous decisive saves during Spain’s path to victory, maintaining multiple clean sheets and providing steady leadership from the back. His superior performances were instrumental in several knockout matches, including the final, where he prevented Argentina from mounting a comeback. 

Completing Spain’s collection of individual honours was young defender Pau Cubarsí, who was awarded the FIFA Best Young Player Award. The Barcelona centre-back made a significant impression on the world’s stage with mature, composed, and fearless displays that belied his age. Cubarsí emerged as one of the standout talents of the tournament, forming a formidable partnership in Spain’s defense and playing a critical role in securing their second FIFA World Cup victory. 

In the team recognition category, the Netherlands received the FIFA Fair Play Trophy, acknowledging their exemplary discipline and sportsmanship throughout the competition. The award honors the team with the best overall disciplinary record and commitment to fair play during the tournament.
