The Lagos transport community mourns the death of Comrade Toba Ijaya, the Organising Secretary of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), who was killed in a gun attack by unidentified assailants.
Reports confirm that the union official was attacked along the Ikorodu Road corridor in Lagos on Sunday night while returning from Fadeyi, his childhood neighborhood. He sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
The incident has provoked strong reactions from transport workers, political associates, and residents, who unanimously regard his death as a significant loss to the NURTW and Lagos community.

Until his death, Toba Ijaya served as the Organising Secretary of the NURTW Lagos State Council. He was recognized among colleagues for his active involvement in union activities, grassroots engagement, and administrative duties.
Lagos State NURTW Chairman, Mustapha Adekunle, known as Sego, described him as a dedicated colleague and committed union member. NURTW National President, Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomu), condemned the killing unequivocally and demanded a thorough investigation to identify those responsible.
The Lagos State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the killing. Detectives are working intensively to identify and apprehend the suspects.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities have not released any official findings regarding those suspected to be involved.
