At Adenuga Chair Lecture, Don Proffers Solutions to Nation’s Challenges

Professor Sunday Adebisi, who holds the Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. Professorial Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of Lagos, has suggested a new economic model called “New Enterprise Nigeria” (NEN) as a quick fix for the country’s financial issues.

The NEN intervention is the most practical way to revive the country’s economy and achieve long-term growth, according to Professor Adebisi, who spoke at the University of Lagos on Thursday during the second edition of the Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. Professorial Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies lecture, “Navigating the present stormy Nigerian Economy: The New Enterprise Nigeria as the anchorage.”

He disclosed that the “New Enterprise Nigeria” (NEN) Intervention, which is anchored on transparency and accountability, includes fit-for-all purpose Infrastructural projects, integration of all Ministries’ activities in synchronization with Nigerian needs, a 25-year food security plan, stoppage of borrowing and push for debt rescheduling plan and digitalization of Bureau–de–change transactions in Nigeria that will help to revitalize the nation’s economy. 

Other elements of NEN that the don highlighted include the creation of jobs through enterprise and startup, investments in innovation drivers, management of subsidy removal, fighting inflation, international and continuous youth re-orientation, and opportunities for wealth creation, among others. 

In her welcome address at the lecture, Vice Chancellor of the institution Professor Folasade Ogunsola, expressed gratitude to Dr. Mike Adenuga for partnering with the University to enhance the frontiers of entrepreneurial academic knowledge and skills acquisition in the school. This partnership, she noted, was made possible through the endowment of the Adenuga Professorial Chair. 

The Chairman of Board of Trustees of Dr. Adenuga Professorial Chair, Professor Taiwo Osipitan, disclosed that the yearly lecture was put in place to enlighten the public on how to solve the nation’s economic problems and create gainful employment in the country. 

The Mike Adenuga Professorial Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies was instituted in 2008 to ignite Entrepreneurship Research and open a new frontier for entrepreneurship knowledge and practice, as well as enterprise creation in the country.
