Ayobami Omoniyi’s role in moving fraud proceeds earned him a 32-month federal prison sentence in the United States.

The Nigerian national, described by prosecutors as a 26-year-old Green Card holder, was also ordered to pay $202,273.80 in restitution, according to a sentencing announcement dated March 24, 2026.

Omoniyi pleaded guilty in August 2024. He admitted receiving money stolen through business email scams and transferring it to others for a fee.

The operation used emails impersonating legitimate businesses to persuade victims to pay into accounts controlled by the conspirators. An Australian fishing company was among those targeted.

Omoniyi moved the money through multiple bank accounts as part of an unlicensed money-transmitting business.

Prosecutors said he was expected to be removed from the United States after serving his sentence.
