Popular Nollywood Actor Alex Ekubo Dies at 40

Renowned Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has reportedly died at the age of 40. The news of his passing emerged on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, following social media posts by several colleagues within the Nigerian film industry, who mourned and paid tribute to his life and career.

Among those who confirmed this development were Funke Akindele, Bolanle Ninalowo, and Godwin Nnadiekwe. 

In an emotional message shared via her Instagram story, Akindele expressed her feelings: “Hmmmmmm. Rest in peace, Alex. I tried to reach out to see you one more time, but I guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex.” She further added, “‘Ore mi’, as you fondly called me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared. Rest in Peace, Alex.”

As of the time of this report, Ekubo’s family had not issued an official statement confirming the circumstances surrounding his death.

The actor’s demise follows weeks of online concern regarding his health, which resurfaced after his first public appearance following months of social media absence. 

Ekubo, renowned for his roles in numerous Nollywood productions, had not posted on Instagram since December 30, 2024, prompting speculation among fans about his well-being. A recent viral video showing the actor interacting with children further drew attention, as viewers noted that he appeared slimmer and subdued.
