Notorious Fraudster, Peter Olasubomi Olowe in N24.7m Saga

A businessman, Peter Olasubomi Olowe, was today, arraigned before a Lagos Federal High Court, on charges bordering on alleged conspiracy, N24,783,109 million fraud and Issuance of dud cheques.

The businessman was arraigned before the court presided over by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke alongside his company; Max Vision Global Concept Limited, on the alleged charges by the men of Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) Ikoyi, Lagos.

The prosecutor, Mr. Chukwu Agwu told the court that the defendant sometimes in 2018, fraudulenty obtained the said sum from a company, Seedland Agro-allied Limited, by one Johnson Olayiwola Muyiwa, through his UBA Plc account numbers 1022162066 and 1014529750.

He was alleged to have told his victims that the money would be used to supply raw Cashew nuts and Sesame seeds (Farm produce).

He also told the court that the defendant on May 7, 2020, issued UBA cheques numbers: 87158390 and 87158390, to the victims of the alleged fraud, which were dishonoured when they were presented for cash, on the ground that there was insufficient money in his accounts.

Agwu told the court that the offences committed by the defendant contravened Section 8 (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, No. 14 of 2006 but punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act. And section (1) (a) (i)(ii) of Dishonoured Cheques (Offences) Act,2004, Laws of the federation of Nigeria. 

The businessman pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following his plea, the prosecutor, asked the court for a trial date and also urged the court to remand him in the custody of Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS), till the determination of the charge.

However, lawyer to the defendant, Mr. Daniel Yeri, informed the court that he has filed the defendant’s bail application and same has been served on the prosecutor. Though, the prosecutor told the court that he was not served with the application.

Following the prosecutor’s objection on service of the bail application, the defendant’s lawyer asked the court for a short date, to enable parties move their application.

Meanwhile, Justice Aneke has ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the NCoS till June 2, 2022, when his bail application will heard.
